The DIGITAL project is a public-private partnership between innovative biotech companies and public universities, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (MINECO), within the RETOS-COLABORACION Program (RTC-2014-2412-1).
This Program promotes the generation of scientific knowledge aimed at solving the problems presented in the challenges of society identified in the Spanish Strategy for Science and Technology and Innovation through quality research.
The central aim of the DIGITAL project is to promote a comprehensive, multi-faceted, yet mutually-reinforcing approach to developing better diagnostic methods, follow-up analytical tests and treatments of inborn errors of metabolism (IEM) diseases.
IEMs are a genetically heterogeneous group of disorders characterized by dysfunction of an enzyme or other protein involved in cellular metabolism. Early diagnosis, close follow-up and effective treatment is mandatory to prevent infant death and long-term neurological impairments.
